About The Free Liberia Movement

The Free Liberia Movement was founded to expose historical injustices, promote social change, and empower individuals and communities worldwide. At the heart of this movement are passionate advocates, leaders, and visionaries who have dedicated their lives to creating an environment where justice, peace, and empowerment can flourish.
Our work is centered around raising awareness of the refugee crisis, advocating for refugee rights, and using the power of collective action to create a better, more just future for marginalized communities, especially in Africa.
What We Do

Civic Education & Sovereign Citizens Training

We teach constitutional literacy, popular sovereignty, and participatory democracy—empowering citizens to understand their rights, responsibilities, and authority as the highest power in the nation.

Youth Organizing & Leadership Development

We recruit and train young leaders across Liberia and the diaspora through schools, faith institutions, unions, and community networks.

America 250 Advocacy

We lead national campaigns tied to America’s 250th anniversary to address racialized citizenship, forced exile, and reparative justice.

Training of Trainers

We prepare facilitators, clergy, union leaders, and organizers to deliver FLM civic education nationwide.

    Our Story

    Liberia was founded through the forced exile of African American citizens whose equality was denied under U.S. racialized citizenship laws. FLM was formed to confront this hidden history, organize citizens, and pursue lawful, nonviolent repair grounded in popular sovereignty.
    AMERICA 250 INITIATIVES

    The Three America 250 Initiatives

    America’s 250th anniversary is an opportunity for truth, healing, and repair—not ceremony alone. FLM leads three national initiatives addressing the legacy of racialized citizenship and exile.
    1. 250 Liberians Invited Without Visa Barriers
      Supporting the participation of 250 Liberians from all walks of life in America’s 250th-anniversary events—recognizing historic parity with African Americans who settled in Liberia for two centuries without visas.
    2. U.S. Birthright Citizenship Restoration
      Advocating for a congressional bill—modeled on the 1924 Indian Citizenship Act—to restore birthright citizenship to persons born in Liberia, recognizing jus soli principles and historic contributions.

    August 22, 2026 – Liberia Liberation with Reparations Day
    Honoring Elizabeth “Mum Bett” Freeman and her reparations victory that abolished slavery in Massachusetts, with national observances and Liberian flag-raising ceremonies.
